How do I find out if we have a book? How can I request it if we don't have it?

I'm looking for a specific book, how can I find it?  If the library doesn't have it, is there a way I can request it?

Answer

To find a book on UHNLibraries.ca start with the OneSearch box, which is on the Home page of UHNLibraries.ca. Paste the title of the book you're looking for into the box and hit search.

From there you'll see a list of citations for books, book chapters, journal articles, and other items found in any of the UHN Library resources.  You can limit the results to books using the check-boxes down the left hand side.

Under each citation, there are some links indicating if we have the full text and how to access it.

If the link says "Full Text online" it should take you to the page with the full text of the book or book chapter.

If the link says PDF, it should take you directly to the PDF.

If the link says something like "Check Availability, QT 261 B892 2017, TRI-UC Library," we have the print copy of the book, and the link will take you to a page where you can see if it is checked out, and where it is located.

If there's a link that says "citation online" we probably don't have the full text. Instead, if you click on the title of the article, and then:

  1. click the "Interlibrary Loan" link
  2. click the "Request via Interlibrary Loan" link
  3. fill in the Interlibrary Loan form

we will look for a copy of the book or book chapter at another library and let you know if there is going to be a fee.

If you can't find the book by searching OneSearch, you can also fill in the request form, and we will look for a copy at another library.
